Rollei film backlog: Venice, New Orleans, NYC

So I’ve some more old film from my Rollei here. I’m just putting it all together. I do have another package I haven’t even opened because I’m just not caught up, and I believe that has the very last from Italy in it. Bye Italy, hope to see you again soon. I still have over 30 rolls left. It’s taking longer than I hoped but this is the first new years resolution I have ever made that was still seeing any traction in June. So I’m happy to have gone this far even though the schedule I planned to keep is out the window. According to the original schedule I should be nearly done by now, not half way. But on to the photos.

The photo above is from Venice and I really like it. This one…I was working on it trying to remove some of it’s flaws and realized it’s interesting how one can’t leave an image alone. Because someone would probably love to put something through hipstamatic and instagram and get this result. I didn’t fully leave it alone but I’m happy with it, even though it’s not a great photo or anything.

That’s all for Venice. Let’s go to New Orleans for two frames. These are portraits of Guitar Lightnin’ Lee in front of the Ernie K-Doe Mother-in-Law Lounge. He was really giving my friend Margaret a hard time flirting with her and she nearly killed me after this incident, because she put up with it for me.

And lastly here’s some NYC beaches, which I hope to visit soon this season.

Twin Guns record release party at The Gutter

I went to a great show on Thursday, Twin Guns was celebrating their latest vinyl release (which you can buy here and it contains a free download.) And the bill included other local favorites, Triple Hex and The Othermen.

It was a killer show…let’s do the photos in order, The Othermen opened.

They are always a ball of fun and I want to dance if I’m not taking pics.

Then Triple Hex was up and they turned off the lights so I had to use flash and wasn’t too happy with my pics, but here are a couple.

Then Twin Guns played, and I’ve seen them a number of times, but wow was the sound and performance amazing that night, really tight and loud in a way that overtakes you even with just the two of them. I really am not a musician or a music writer so you will have to click on the links and get a listen to really get a sense of it.

They have their own lights and that’s why they looked so cool even though it was dark.

Killer show, all nice people. Rock’n'roll. Catch Twin Guns, or buy the record, you won’t regret it.

Redd Kross at Santos Party House

I went to see one of my old favorite bands, and also friends whom I never get to see, Redd Kross and had such a fun time. Even though I’ve retired from being in the front row for every show, and really any show, I still insist on being in the front for a Redd Kross show and dancing and making an nuisance of my myself with hair swinging around. I took my favorite photos with my phone such as the one above, but I did bring my camera and sub-optimal lens since the other was in the shop. Anyway my pics are so-so, but I’m posting them anyway.

I went out on Friday

I went and saw my friends the Luxurious Faux Furs. I hadn’t seen my friends Josh and Jessica in a while and I had a lovely time, LFF can be very mesmerizing to watch and hear, and they are great friends who I can swap cat stories with. I have not been going out much but I had a lot of fun, and there was a headlining band that was very loud and quite fun, Big Bad Oven from Knoxville. I danced also which I used to do all the time, even though it was awkward in my snowboots. The next night I went out too spur of the moment with my friend Molly, and even though I felt, and knew I was ten years older than everyone in the place, I had some fun cocktails and great time. The bartender was a kid from Oklahoma, they played 70’s pop songs and then horrifying 80’s ones and my friend Molly crashed over and we had brunch the next day, almost like you would if you got lucky at a bar, except I’m just lucky to have friends. I really am.
